My name is Derek. I have been an educator for 16 years, and have taught at both the high school and college levels. My main subject is Spanish, but I have also taught drama, sociology, history, physical education, and health. I taught high school Drama for 5 years, in which time my groups staged 4 plays which were quite positively rated and received by our audiences. I also had the opportunity to lead a group of actors in performing at the 2009 National Performing Arts Festival in New York City. I have sung and acted, as an amateur, since I was five years old. In teaching the course, I tend to focus more on characterization and visualization. I believe acting is becoming someone you are not for a short period of time; not simply pretending to play a part.
